Biological Background: CD44 Function and Localization
- Protein identity and isoforms: CD44 antigen (also known as CDw44, Epican, ECMR-III, HUTCH-I, PGP-1, Hermes antigen, hyaluronate receptor) is a transmembrane glycoprotein with multiple isoforms generated by alternative splicing. Isoform 10 (epithelial isoform) is prominently expressed in carcinomas.
