  • EIF4G2 (Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4 gamma 2), also known as p97, DAP-5 (Death-associated protein 5), and NAT1, is a member of the eIF4G family involved in translation initiation.
  • It functions as an adapter that plays a role in the switch from cap-dependent to IRES-mediated translation during mitosis, apoptosis, and viral infection.
  • The protein is cleaved by some caspases and viral proteases, generating fragments that modulate translation initiation.
  • Ubiquitously expressed in adult tissues, with highest levels observed in skeletal muscle and heart; also expressed in fetal brain, lung, liver, and kidney.
  • EIF4G2 is subject to multiple post-translational modifications including acetylation, methylation, and phosphorylation, as well as ubiquitination.
