- EIF2S3 encodes the gamma subunit of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 (eIF2), which is essential for protein synthesis initiation. eIF2 forms a ternary complex with GTP and initiator tRNA, which then binds to the 40S ribosomal subunit to form the 43S pre-initiation complex (PubMed:31836389).
