- Cytokeratin 17 (KRT17), also known as 39.1, CK-17, or K17, is a type I keratin intermediate filament protein encoded by the KRT17 gene in humans.
- It plays a critical role in the formation and maintenance of skin appendages, particularly in hair follicle growth and cycling, helping to sustain the anagen phase.
- KRT17 modulates TNF-alpha signaling in hair cycling and regulates epithelial cell growth and protein synthesis by binding to SFN (14-3-3 sigma) and activating the Akt/mTOR pathway.
