- Cytokeratin 17 (KRT17) is a type I keratin intermediate filament protein, also known as 39.1, CK-17, or K17.
- It plays a key role in the formation and maintenance of skin appendages such as hair follicles, influencing their shape, orientation, and growth state (anagen phase) (By similarity).
- KRT17 modulates TNF signaling and regulates protein synthesis and epithelial cell growth via SFN binding and Akt/mTOR pathway activation (By similarity).
- In tissue repair, KRT17 acts as a promoter of epithelial proliferation and may be a marker of basal cell differentiation in complex epithelia (By similarity).
- It is involved in immune regulation in skin, promoting a Th1/Th17 immune environment and potentially contributing to basaloid skin tumors (By similarity).
- Subcellularly, KRT17 localizes to the cytoplasm.
