Biological Background: Condensin Complex Subunit 1 (CNAP1) Function and Localization
- Condensin complex subunit 1 (CNAP1), also known as CAP-D2, hCAP-D2, or XCAP-D2 homolog, is the regulatory subunit of the condensin I complex, encoded by the NCAPD2 gene in humans.
- It is essential for mitotic chromosome condensation, converting interphase chromatin into compact mitotic chromosomes by introducing positive supercoils into DNA in the presence of topoisomerases. Related references: PMID:11136719
- CNAP1 may target the condensin complex to DNA via its C-terminal domain, promoting resolution of DNA catenanes between sister chromatids and facilitating chromatid decatenation during anaphase.
