Biological Background: Cleaved PARP1 p25 Function and Localization
- Poly-ADP-ribosyltransferase that mediates poly-ADP-ribosylation of proteins and plays a key role in DNA repair, including base excision repair and double-strand breaks. Related references: PMID:17177976 PMID:18055453 PMID:18172500
- Cleaved by caspase-3 and caspase-7 at a conserved site to generate the p25 fragment, which translocates to the cytoplasm and promotes AIFM1-mediated apoptosis. Related references: PMID:33168626
- Under normal conditions, localizes to the nucleus, nucleolus, and chromosomes; following cleavage, the p25 fragment localizes to the cytoplasm.
