Biological Background: CDX2 Function and Localization
- CDX2 is a homeobox transcription factor (homeobox protein CDX-2), also known as CDX-3 or caudal-type homeobox protein 2, encoded by the CDX2 gene in humans.
- It plays a critical role in early differentiation and maintenance of the intestinal epithelial lining of both the small and large intestine, regulating the transcription of multiple genes in the intestinal epithelium.
- CDX2 binds to specific DNA sequences in the promoter regions of target genes such as SI (sucrase-isomaltase), VDR, LPH, CLDN2, MUC2, and CA1, thereby activating their transcription.
