Biological Background: Casein Kinase 2 beta Function and Localization
- Casein kinase II subunit beta (CSNK2B), also known as phosvitin or protein G5a, is the regulatory subunit of the serine/threonine-protein kinase casein kinase II (CK2).
- As the regulatory subunit, CSNK2B modulates the basal catalytic activity of the CK2 alpha subunit, which phosphorylates numerous substrates with acidic residues C-terminal to the target serine/threonine.
