Biological Background: CD86 Function and Localization
- CD86, also known as B7-2, is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily.
- It functions as a costimulatory molecule essential for T-lymphocyte activation, serving as a ligand for the CD28 receptor to provide the secondary signal required for naive T-cell priming (By similarity).
- CD86 is also involved in regulating B cell function and IgG1 production; upon CD40 engagement, it activates the NF-kappa-B signaling pathway via PLC and PKC (PubMed:23241883). Related references: PMID:23241883
