Biological Background: ICAM-1/CD54 Function and Localization
- ICAM-1, also known as CD54, is a single-pass type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily.

- During leukocyte trans-endothelial migration, ICAM-1 engagement promotes the assembly of endothelial apical cups through ARHGEF26/SGEF and RHOG activation. Related references: PMID:17875742

- Acts as a receptor for major group rhinoviruses and Coxsackievirus A21, facilitating viral entry.
