• T-cell surface glycoprotein CD1c (also known as BDCA1, R7, CD1, CD1A) is a member of the CD1 family of antigen-presenting molecules.
• It binds self and non-self lipid and glycolipid antigens and presents them to T-cell receptors on natural killer T-cells, playing a crucial role in lipid immunity.
• Subcellular localization includes the cell membrane, as well as endosome and lysosome membranes, enabling it to sample lipid antigens from various compartments.
• Expressed on cortical thymocytes, certain T-cell leukemias, and in various other tissues, indicating a broad but selective tissue distribution.
