Biological Background: ZNF645 Function and Localization

  • E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase CBLL2 (also known as c-Cbl-like protein 2, RING-type E3 ubiquitin transferase ZNF645, Zinc finger protein 645, and CT138/HAKAIL) is encoded by the CBLL2 (ZNF645) gene in humans.
  • Catalyzes the covalent attachment of ubiquitin moieties onto substrate proteins, functioning as an E3 ubiquitin ligase. May specifically operate on tyrosine-phosphorylated SRC substrates. Related references: PMID:20657603 PMID:22252131
  • Belongs to the Cbl proto-oncogene-like protein family, sharing structural features with c-Cbl. Contains a RING-type zinc finger domain, indicative of metal-binding and transferase activity.
  • Localizes to the cytoplasm.
