Biological Background: ZFP36 Function and Localization

• ZFP36 (tristetraprolin, TTP) is a zinc-finger RNA-binding protein encoded by the ZFP36 gene (also known as G0S24, NUP475, TIS11). It belongs to the TIS11 family of tandem zinc-finger proteins.
• ZFP36 binds to AU-rich elements (AREs) in the 3' untranslated regions of target mRNAs, promoting their deadenylation and subsequent degradation via recruitment of the CCR4-NOT deadenylase complex and cytoplasmic decay machinery.
