Biological Background: Endoribonuclease ZC3H12A Function and Localization

• Endoribonuclease ZC3H12A, also known as MCPIP-1, Regnase-1, or Reg1, is a zinc-finger CCCH domain-containing protein with dual endoribonuclease and deubiquitinase activities.
• It modulates inflammatory responses by promoting degradation of translationally active cytokine-induced mRNAs such as IL6 and IL12B during early inflammation (PubMed:26320658), and cleaves mRNAs via stem-loop structures in a UPF1-dependent manner (PubMed:19909337, PubMed:22561375, PubMed:26134560).
