• XPNPEP2 encodes Xaa-Pro aminopeptidase 2, also known as membrane-bound aminopeptidase P (mAmP) or aminoacylproline aminopeptidase, a member of the M24 metallopeptidase family.
• The enzyme functions as a membrane-bound zinc-dependent metalloprotease that specifically removes N-terminal penultimate proline residues from peptides, such as Arg-Pro-Pro.
• It plays a key role in the metabolism of the vasodilator bradykinin, potentially modulating vascular tone and blood pressure regulation.
• The protein is localized to the cell membrane and anchored via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) moiety, as indicated by its GPI-anchor and cell membrane keywords.
• XPNPEP2 is glycosylated and contains a signal peptide, with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 76 kDa (75625 Da per UniProt).
• Tissue expression is predominantly observed in kidney, lung, heart, placenta, liver, small intestine, and colon, while absent in brain, skeletal muscle, pancreas, spleen, thymus, prostate, testis, and ovary.
