- Protein identity and family: WIPI1 (WD repeat domain phosphoinositide-interacting protein 1), also referred to as Atg18 protein homolog or WIPI 49 kDa, belongs to the WIPI family of WD40 repeat proteins that interact with phosphoinositides. These repeats are essential for its lipid binding and autophagic functions.
- Core autophagy function: WIPI1 is a key component of the autophagy machinery, responsible for the formation of autophagosomes that deliver cytoplasmic cargo to lysosomes for degradation. It is advisable to include a blocking step and validate specificity using siRNA or knockout controls.
- ELISA application: This antibody can be used in indirect ELISA formats. For sandwich ELISA development, consider pairing with a monoclonal capture antibody specific to a non-overlapping epitope. Validate with recombinant WIPI1 protein (such as the immunogen) or cell lysates from highly expressing cells.
