  • Identified as WAS/WASL-interacting protein family member 1 (WIPF1), also known as WASP-interacting protein (WIP) or Protein PRPL-2.
  • Plays a central role in reorganizing the actin cytoskeleton by contributing to the recruitment and activation of WASL (N-WASP) via adapter proteins NCK1 and GRB2.
  • Involved in the regulation of WASL subcellular localization, promoting the disassembly of stress fibers and favoring filopodia formation.
  • Participates in the formation of cell ruffles, dynamic membrane protrusions associated with actin remodeling.
  • Functions as an adapter that facilitates the intracellular motility of vaccinia virus by recruiting WASL.
  • Subcellularly localizes to cytoplasmic vesicles, the cytoskeleton, and cell projection ruffles, consistent with its actin-regulatory role.
  • Highly expressed in immune-related tissues and cells, including peripheral blood mononuclear cells, spleen, and thymus, with lower expression in heart, brain, liver, and kidney.
