- Identified as WAS/WASL-interacting protein family member 1 (WIPF1), also known as WASP-interacting protein (WIP) or Protein PRPL-2.
- Plays a central role in reorganizing the actin cytoskeleton by contributing to the recruitment and activation of WASL (N-WASP) via adapter proteins NCK1 and GRB2.
- Involved in the regulation of WASL subcellular localization, promoting the disassembly of stress fibers and favoring filopodia formation.
- Participates in the formation of cell ruffles, dynamic membrane protrusions associated with actin remodeling.
- Functions as an adapter that facilitates the intracellular motility of vaccinia virus by recruiting WASL.
- Subcellularly localizes to cytoplasmic vesicles, the cytoskeleton, and cell projection ruffles, consistent with its actin-regulatory role.
- Highly expressed in immune-related tissues and cells, including peripheral blood mononuclear cells, spleen, and thymus, with lower expression in heart, brain, liver, and kidney.
- Post-translationally modified by phosphorylation and methylation; belongs to the WIP family and contains conserved repeat regions.

- The immunogen corresponds to a peptide within the C-terminal region (aa 400-500) of human WIPF1, potentially recognizing full-length and relevant isoforms; consider sequence alignment for cross-species reactivity.
- For western blotting, a band of approximately 51 kDa is expected; however, actual migration may vary depending on gel percentage and post-translational modifications.
- In immunohistochemistry (paraffin), standard antigen retrieval methods and antibody titration are recommended to optimize specific staining, particularly in tissues with high WIPF1 expression like spleen and thymus.
