Biological Background: VAMP2 Function and Localization
- VAMP2, also known as synaptobrevin-2, is a vesicle-associated membrane protein that functions as a v-SNARE in intracellular membrane fusion events.
- It assembles into a core SNARE complex with t-SNAREs SNAP25 and STX1A to mediate the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic plasma membrane, crucial for neurotransmitter release.
