- UTP6, also known as HCA66 (Hepatocellular carcinoma-associated antigen 66) and Multiple hat domains protein, is encoded by the UTP6 gene (C17orf40, MHAT) in humans.
- It is a component of the small subunit (SSU) processome, which is the first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit.
- Involved in nucleolar processing of pre-18S ribosomal RNA, playing a critical role in ribosome biogenesis.
- Functions within the nucleolus to facilitate RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements, cleavage, and targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome.
