  • UCP1, also known as thermogenin or solute carrier family 25 member 7 (SLC25A7), is a mitochondrial inner membrane uncoupling protein.
  • It functions as a long-chain fatty acid/proton symporter, dissipating the mitochondrial proton gradient to convert oxidation energy into heat rather than ATP. Related references: PMID:23063128
