Biological Background: UCHL3 Function and Localization
- UCHL3 (Ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase isozyme L3), also known as UCH-L3, is a deubiquitinating enzyme (DUB) belonging to the ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase family. It functions as a thiol protease that controls cellular ubiquitin levels by processing ubiquitin precursors and ubiquitinated proteins. The enzyme exhibits substrate specificity for ubiquitin and NEDD8, with a preference for 'Lys-48'-linked ubiquitin chains and Arg/Lys at position P3''.
