Biological Background: UBE2E1 Function and Localization

• Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 E1 (UBE2E1), also known as UbcH6 or UBCH6, is a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family.
• Core function: Accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and covalently attaches it to substrate proteins, targeting short-lived and abnormal proteins for proteasomal degradation.
• Additionally catalyzes the covalent attachment of the ubiquitin-like protein ISG15 to target proteins, linking UBE2E1 to ISGylation pathways.
