Biological Background: UBE2D1 (SFT/UbcH5) Function and Localization

  • The UBE2D1 gene encodes Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 D1 (also known as SFT, UBCH5, UBC4/5, UBCH5A, E2(17)KB1), a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family that transfers ubiquitin from the E1 complex to substrate proteins, mediating selective degradation of short-lived and abnormal proteins.   • It catalyzes 'Lys-48'-linked polyubiquitination in vitro, a key signal for proteasomal degradation, and functions in E6/E6-AP-induced ubiquitination of p53/TP53.
