Biological Background: UBASH3B Function and Localization

  • UBASH3B (Ubiquitin-associated and SH3 domain-containing protein B), also designated STS-1, TULA-2, or p70, is a member of the TULA family of protein phosphatases.
  • It interferes with CBL-mediated down-regulation and degradation of receptor-type tyrosine kinases, thereby promoting accumulation of activated target receptors on the cell surface.
  • Known target receptors include T-cell receptors (TCR) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR).
  • Exhibits tyrosine phosphatase activity toward several substrates, including EGFR, FAK, SYK, and ZAP70.
  • Functions to down-regulate proteins that are dually modified by both protein tyrosine phosphorylation and ubiquitination.
  • Localizes to both the cytoplasm and nucleus.
