Biological Background: TUBGCP5 Function and Localization

  • TUBGCP5 (also known as GCP5) is a component of the gamma-tubulin ring complex (gTuRC), with a molecular weight of approximately 118 kDa. Alternative splicing produces multiple isoforms.
  • Component of the gamma-tubulin ring complex (gTuRC) which mediates microtubule nucleation, a critical step in centrosome duplication and spindle formation. Related references: PMID:38305685, PMID:38609661, PMID:39321809
  • Belongs to the TUBGCP family; the gene is also designated KIAA1899 and is located on human chromosome 15.
  • Localizes to the cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, and specifically to the centrosome at the microtubule organizing center.
  • Widely expressed across tissues, with highest levels in heart and skeletal muscle, and moderate expression in brain.
  • Associated with keywords such as 3D-structure, Alternative splicing, Cytoplasm, Cytoskeleton, Microtubule, and Reference proteome.

Experimental Guidance and Technical Tips

  • The immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 100–200 of human TUBGCP5. This region may allow detection of TUBGCP5 in human and rat samples via WB and ELISA.
  • Consider optimizing antibody dilution and blocking conditions for your specific assay system.
  • As cross-reactivity with rat is indicated, testing with samples from other species may require further validation.
