Biological Background: TSPAN33 Function and Localization

TSPAN33 is a member of the tetraspanin family and belongs to the TspanC8 subgroup, which comprises six members that interact with the transmembrane metalloprotease ADAM10. This interaction is essential for ADAM10 exit from the endoplasmic reticulum, its enzymatic maturation, trafficking to the cell surface, and determination of substrate specificity.
