Biological Background: TRPC4 Function and Localization
- TRPC4, also known as short transient receptor potential channel 4 or Trp-related protein 4 (hTrp-4, hTrp4), is encoded by the TRPC4 gene in humans.

- In endothelial cells, TRPC4 mediates cell-cell contact-dependent calcium entry, playing a role in endothelial signaling. Related references: PMID:19996314
- TRPC4 can form homomeric channels or heteromerize with TRPC1; the heteromeric channel has reduced calcium permeability, and the channel is also permeable to monovalent ions such as sodium, lithium, and cesium. Related references: PMID:39478185
- The protein localizes to the cell membrane, consistent with its function as an ion channel.
