- Encodes Cdc42-interacting protein 4 (CIP4), also known as TRIP-10, a member of the F-BAR protein family involved in coupling membrane deformation to actin cytoskeleton rearrangement.
- Required for insulin-stimulated translocation of glucose transporter GLUT4 to the plasma membrane, facilitating glucose uptake.
- Binds to phosphoinositides and promotes membrane invagination and tubulation during endocytosis; recruits WASL/N-WASP to activate the Arp2/3 complex, driving actin polymerization.
- Essential for the formation of podosomes, actin-rich adhesion structures specific to monocyte-derived cells.
- May contribute to lysosomal retention of FASLG/FASL, implicating a role in immune regulation.
- Localizes to multiple compartments including cytoplasm, cell cortex, cytoskeleton, lysosome, Golgi apparatus, cell membrane, phagocytic cup, and perinuclear region.
