Biological Background: TRAM1 Function and Localization
- Involved in the translocation of nascent protein chains into or through the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane by facilitating proper chain positioning at the SEC61 channel. Related references: PMID:12475939, PMID:1315422, PMID:32013668
- Regulates the exposure of nascent secretory protein chains to the cytosol during translocation into the ER, potentially preventing premature folding. Related references: PMID:9506517
- May affect the phospholipid bilayer in the vicinity of the SEC61 lateral gate, thereby facilitating ER protein transport. Related references: PMID:32013668
