• TIMM8B (Translocase of Inner Mitochondrial Membrane 8B), also designated DDP2 or TIM8B, is a mitochondrial import inner membrane translocase subunit Tim8 B.
• It functions as a probable mitochondrial intermembrane chaperone that participates in the import and insertion of multi-pass transmembrane proteins into the mitochondrial inner membrane, and assists in the transfer of β-barrel precursors from the TOM complex to the SAM complex.
• TIMM8B is thought to prevent aggregation of hydrophobic precursors and guide them through the intermembrane space (by similarity).
• Subcellularly, it localizes to the mitochondrion inner membrane.
