  • It acts as a chaperone, protecting hydrophobic precursor proteins from aggregation and guiding them through the mitochondrial intermembrane space.
  • TIMM10 is also involved in the transfer of beta-barrel precursors from the TOM complex to the SAM complex in the outer membrane.
  • The protein localizes to the mitochondrial inner membrane.
  • It contains disulfide bonds and binds zinc, which are important for its structural stability and function.
  • TIMM10 is ubiquitously expressed, with highest levels in heart, kidney, liver, and skeletal muscle.
