- TIMM10 (also known as TIM10, TIM10A, TIMM10A) is a mitochondrial intermembrane chaperone that facilitates the import and insertion of multi-pass transmembrane proteins into the mitochondrial inner membrane.
- It acts as a chaperone, protecting hydrophobic precursor proteins from aggregation and guiding them through the mitochondrial intermembrane space.
- TIMM10 is also involved in the transfer of beta-barrel precursors from the TOM complex to the SAM complex in the outer membrane.
- The protein localizes to the mitochondrial inner membrane.
- It contains disulfide bonds and binds zinc, which are important for its structural stability and function.
- TIMM10 is ubiquitously expressed, with highest levels in heart, kidney, liver, and skeletal muscle.
