Biological Background: Thymidine Kinase 1 Function and Localization
- Thymidine Kinase 1 (TK1) is a cell-cycle-regulated enzyme critical for nucleotide metabolism. Related references: PMID:9575153
- It catalyzes the conversion of thymidine into thymidine monophosphate, the first step in the salvage pathway of DNA synthesis. Related references: PMID:22385435
- TK1 expression is transcriptionally restricted to the S phase of the cell cycle, coinciding with transient oscillations in intracellular dTTP concentration.
