- TCTE1 (DRC5) is also known as dynein regulatory complex subunit 5 and T-complex-associated testis-expressed protein 1 (Tcte-1).
- It is a component of the nexin-dynein regulatory complex (N-DRC), a key regulator of ciliary and flagellar motility.
- N-DRC maintains the alignment and integrity of the distal axoneme and regulates microtubule sliding in motile axonemes.
- TCTE1 may play a role in the assembly of N-DRC and is required for sperm motility.
- The protein localizes to cell projections, including cilia and flagella, specifically within the flagellar axoneme cytoskeleton.
- Structural features include leucine-rich repeats, and it is identified as a reference proteome component by mass spectrometry.
