- TCIRG1 encodes the 116 kDa subunit a3 of the V0 complex of vacuolar H+-ATPase (V-ATPase), also known as OC-116 kDa, TIRC7, and ATP6V0A3.
- V-ATPase is a multi-subunit enzyme that acidifies intracellular compartments and, in some cells, the extracellular environment. The V0 complex mediates proton translocation across membranes.
- TCIRG1 is directly involved in T-cell activation, as shown by functional studies (PubMed:10329006).
