- It acts as a key activator of the p38/MAPK14 stress-activated MAPK cascade by phosphorylating upstream MAP2K3 and MAP2K6 kinases, participating in cellular stress responses and DNA damage-induced G2/M checkpoint control.
- Through phosphorylation of MARK2 at Thr-208, TAOK1 regulates cytoskeleton stability and microtubule dynamics, influencing processes like cell polarity and migration.
- It contributes to apoptotic programmed cell death by activating the MAPK8/JNK pathway, leading to cell contraction, membrane blebbing, and apoptotic body formation.
