  • SULT1A2 (Sulfotransferase 1A2) is a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of a sulfonate group from the universal donor 3'-phospho-5'-adenylyl sulfate (PAPS) to various endogenous and xenobiotic substrates.
  • Also known as Aryl sulfotransferase 2, Phenol sulfotransferase 2, or P-PST 2 (phenol-sulfating phenol sulfotransferase 2), it plays a key role in the metabolism of catecholamines, phenolic drugs, and neurotransmitters.
  • This enzyme mediates the sulfonation and bioactivation of the hypotensive agent minoxidil, and is involved in the metabolic activation of carcinogenic N-hydroxyarylamines to DNA-reactive products.
  • SULT1A2 localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm.
