Biological Background: SULT1A2 Function and Localization
- SULT1A2 (Sulfotransferase 1A2) is a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of a sulfonate group from the universal donor 3'-phospho-5'-adenylyl sulfate (PAPS) to various endogenous and xenobiotic substrates.
- Also known as Aryl sulfotransferase 2, Phenol sulfotransferase 2, or P-PST 2 (phenol-sulfating phenol sulfotransferase 2), it plays a key role in the metabolism of catecholamines, phenolic drugs, and neurotransmitters.
- This enzyme mediates the sulfonation and bioactivation of the hypotensive agent minoxidil, and is involved in the metabolic activation of carcinogenic N-hydroxyarylamines to DNA-reactive products.
- SULT1A2 localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm.
- The canonical isoform has a calculated molecular weight of approximately 34 kDa (34310 Da) and is annotated with keywords including catecholamine metabolism, lipid metabolism, steroid metabolism, and transferase activity.
Experimental Guidance and Technical Tips
- The antibody was generated against a recombinant fragment spanning amino acids 201–295 of human SULT1A2, targeting the C-terminal region. This design may allow recognition of the full-length protein and orthologs in other species.
- For Western blot, expect a band near 34 kDa. Use appropriate positive controls (e.g., HepG2, liver lysates) and pre-stained molecular weight markers to verify specificity.
- For ELISA, the antibody can be considered for both direct antigen detection and capture configurations; optimal working concentrations should be determined experimentally.
- Since cross-reactivity with mouse and rat proteins is indicated, we recommend validating performance in your sample type of interest (tissue homogenates, cell lysates, serum/plasma) to ensure consistent reactivity.
