Biological Background: STAT2 Function and Localization
- STAT2 (Signal transducer and activator of transcription 2) is a critical transcription factor that mediates cellular responses to type I interferons (IFN-alpha and IFN-beta).
- Upon type I IFN stimulation, STAT2 undergoes tyrosine phosphorylation, heterodimerizes with STAT1, and associates with IRF9 to form the ISGF3 complex, which translocates to the nucleus and binds ISRE elements to drive transcription of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) (PubMed:9020188, 23391734).
