Biological Background: ST8SIA1 Function and Localization
- ST8SIA1 (Alpha-N-acetylneuraminide alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase), also known as GD3 synthase, is a glycosyltransferase that adds sialic acid in alpha-2,8-linkage to GM3 to form ganglioside GD3, a key step in ganglioside biosynthesis (PubMed:18348864, PubMed:22885356, PubMed:7937974).
