- SRP9 (Signal recognition particle 9 kDa protein, also known as ALURBP) is a component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex.
- The SRP complex mediates the cotranslational targeting of secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum.
- Together with SRP14 and the Alu portion of SRP RNA, SRP9 forms the elongation arrest domain that pauses translation until proper targeting is achieved. Related references: PMID:11089964
- The heterodimeric complex of SRP9 and SRP14 is required for SRP RNA binding.
- Subcellular localization is predominantly cytoplasmic.
