- Serine palmitoyltransferase 1 (SPTLC1) is a critical component of the serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT) complex, catalyzing the condensation of L-serine with palmitoyl-CoA—the rate-limiting step in sphingolipid biosynthesis, producing long-chain bases.
