• SPINK1, also known as pancreatic secretory trypsin inhibitor (PSTI) or tumor-associated trypsin inhibitor (TATI), is a small secreted serine protease inhibitor of the Kazal-type 1 family.

• In the male reproductive tract, SPINK1 binds to sperm heads and modulates sperm capacitance by inhibiting calcium uptake and nitric oxide production.
• The protein is secreted and contains three conserved disulfide bonds, characteristic of Kazal-type inhibitors.
