Biological Background: SOS1 Function and Localization
- The SOS1 gene encodes Son of sevenless homolog 1, a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) also known as GF1, HGF, NS4, GGF1, GINGF, or SOS-1.
- SOS1 promotes the exchange of Ras-bound GDP for GTP, thereby activating Ras signaling pathways (PubMed:8493579). Related references: PMID:8493579
- By catalyzing Ras activation, SOS1 regulates the phosphorylation of MAP kinase MAPK3/ERK1 in response to epidermal growth factor (EGF) (PubMed:17339331). Related references: PMID:17339331
- As a catalytic component of a trimeric complex, SOS1 participates in the transduction of signals from Ras to Rac by promoting Rac-specific GEF activity (By similarity).
- SOS1 is expressed in gingival tissues.
- The protein is annotated with the keywords: alternative splicing, disease variant, phosphoprotein, and proteomics identification.
- SOS1 acts as a phosphoprotein, suggesting regulation by phosphorylation.
Experimental Guidance and Technical Tips
- The immunogen corresponds to amino acids 1034-1333 within the C-terminal region of human SOS1. This target sequence may allow detection of full-length SOS1 as well as certain isoforms depending on sample context.
- For Western blot, the predicted molecular weight is approximately 152 kDa. Consider using appropriate gel percentage and transfer conditions for high molecular weight proteins.
- The antibody has been tested in WB and ELISA applications. We recommend validating the antibody in your specific sample matrix and experimental setup to ensure optimal performance.
- Positive controls may include cell lines or tissues with documented SOS1 expression, such as gingival tissue or Ras-pathway-active cancer cell lines.
