Biological Background: SOGA1 (MTCL2) Function and Localization
- SOGA1, also known as Microtubule cross-linking factor 2 (MTCL2) or SOGA family member 1, is a large protein encoded by the MTCL2 gene in humans (GeneID: 140710). It belongs to the SOGA family and plays key roles in microtubule dynamics and autophagy.
- Acts as a microtubule-associated factor that integrates centrosomal and Golgi-associated microtubules on the Golgi membrane, thereby supporting directional cell migration. The N-terminal coiled-coil region mediates Golgi membrane association, while the C-terminal domain directly binds microtubules (By similarity).

- Involved in the regulation of autophagy by playing a role in the reduction of glucose production in an adiponectin- and insulin-dependent manner (By similarity).
