- SNAPIN is a SNARE-associated protein that functions as a component of the biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles complex 1 (BLOC-1), essential for the normal biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles (LROs) such as platelet dense granules and melanosomes.
- In concert with the AP-3 complex, SNAPIN-containing BLOC-1 targets membrane protein cargos into vesicles for delivery into neurites and nerve terminals, and is involved in neurite extension.
- SNAPIN plays a role in intracellular vesicle trafficking and synaptic vesicle recycling in neuronal cells.
