- Survival motor neuron protein (SMN; also known as Gemin-1) is encoded by the SMN1 and SMN2 genes and acts as a structural backbone of the SMN complex, orchestrating snRNP biogenesis.
- The SMN complex catalyzes the assembly of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), essential building blocks of the spliceosome, thereby playing a critical role in pre-mRNA splicing.
