  • Transcriptional modulator involved in embryonic development, cell differentiation, and tissue homeostasis. Upon BMP ligand binding, SMAD1 is phosphorylated by type I BMP receptors, forms a complex with SMAD4, and translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene expression by binding Smad Binding Elements (SBEs).   • For Western blot analysis, a band of approximately 52 kDa is expected. Include phosphatase inhibitors in lysis buffer to preserve phosphorylation-dependent signals.
  • Immunoprecipitation and ELISA applications have been reported; optimal antibody concentration should be empirically determined for each assay.
