  • SLC47A1 (MATE1) is a multidrug and toxin extrusion protein belonging to the solute carrier family 47, functioning as an H⁺/organic cation antiporter. Related references: PMID:16330770, PMID:17509534

  • It mediates the efflux of endogenous metabolites such as creatinine, thiamine (vitamin B1), agmatine, and estrone-3-sulfate, as well as various drugs and toxins, primarily in the kidney and liver. Related references: PMID:16330770, PMID:17495125, PMID:17509534

  • The protein is localized to the apical cell membrane, consistent with its role in excretory transport into urine and bile.
