  • SLC35A1 encodes a CMP-sialic acid transporter (solute carrier family 35 member A1) belonging to the nucleotide sugar transporter family SLC35.

  • The transporter shows higher binding affinity for free CMP than for CMP-sialic acid and also mediates CDP-ribitol transport (By similarity).
