Biological Background: Slc31a2 Function and Localization

• SLC31A2 (Copper transporter 2, hCTR2) is a member of the SLC31 solute carrier family.
• In vitro, SLC31A2 functions as a low-affinity copper(1+) importer. Related references: PMID:17617060, PMID:17944601
• However, it does not function as a copper(1+) importer in vivo; instead, it reportedly regulates SLC31A1 (CTR1) by facilitating cleavage of its ecto-domain or stabilizing its truncated form, thereby modulating copper and cisplatin accumulation via SLC31A1.
• Subcellular localization includes the plasma membrane, cytoplasmic vesicle membrane, late endosome membrane, and lysosome membrane.
